Israel Baseball League to Hold Tryouts in Miami

(November 24, 2006, Boston, MA)—Ever since the matriarch
Rebecca first went to her bullpen for help (“Behold,
Rebecca brought forth her pitcher” – Genesis 24:45), Israel
has shown a natural affinity for baseball. This affinity
is about to ascend to new heights as the Israel Baseball
League (IBL), Israel’s new professional baseball league,
gets ready to launch its inaugural season this summer. In
its search for top-flight players to bring to Israel, the
League announced today that it will be holding tryouts in
Miami on December 29th.
Miami-based attorney Martin I. Berger is the League’s
Player Personnel Director, and he made it clear that these
Miami tryouts are an important opportunity for prospective
players to showcase their skills. “We have already held
tryouts in Massachusetts and in Israel, and we signed
players from both events. But we are looking at these
Miami tryouts as being potentially the most important ones
to date,” Berger said. Berger expects players from all
over Southeastern United States and beyond to attend.
According to Berger, the tryouts will be overseen by Dan
Duquette, former General Manager of the Boston Red Sox and
the Director of Baseball Operations of the IBL.
The tryouts will take place on Friday, December 29th, at
the Miami Country Day School. Registration will be at 8:30
a.m. There is a fee of $50.00.
The Israel Baseball League has scheduled opening day for
its historic first season to take place on June 24, 2007.
The league will be comprised of six teams and will play a
45-game schedule during the summer. The league’s
commissioner is the Honorable Daniel C. Kurtzer, former
U.S. Ambassador to Israel and to Egypt and, along with Dan
Duquette, includes other notable baseball and business
officials among its organizers.
